What the Silver Safari Package includes
The package covers 7 nights across Cape Town and Kruger National Park. You receive luxury vehicle transfers at every stage, including airport collection on arrival and handovers between destinations.
Cape Town accommodation runs for 3 nights, Kruger for 4 nights. In Kruger, you stay at two separate luxury lodges and take part in twice-daily game drives led by private guides. A half-day tour to the Winelands is included on Day 2.
The package also covers restaurant reservations, 24/7 local support during your trip, and optional animal interaction experiences such as walking safaris or elephant encounters.
International flights to and from South Africa are not included in the base price. Activities beyond the Winelands tour and Kruger game drives (shark cage diving, helicopter tours, ballooning, Robben Island visits) cost extra and are arranged on request.

How the 7-day itinerary is structured
Day 1 is arrival in Cape Town. You are met at the airport and transferred to your hotel by a driver who also acts as a guide. Day 2 includes a half-day tour to the Winelands, visiting vineyards and estates.
Day 3 is free time in Cape Town to choose activities such as shark cage diving, swimming with penguins at Boulders Beach, visiting Table Mountain, touring Robben Island, or shopping at the V&A Waterfront.
On Day 4, you transfer to Kruger National Park. Days 5, 6 and 7 follow the same pattern: an early morning game drive departing around sunrise, return to the lodge for brunch and midday rest, then a late afternoon game drive that continues into dusk.
Evening game drives often include a sundowner stop in the bush. Meals are served at the lodge, typically around a fire in the boma or in the main dining area.
What happens during a typical game drive in Kruger?
Game drives last 3 to 4 hours and take place in open 4x4 vehicles with a private guide and tracker. The morning drive starts before sunrise to catch predators and other wildlife at their most active.
The afternoon drive departs around 15:30 or 16:00 and includes a sundowner stop, where you step out of the vehicle for drinks and snacks as the sun sets. Guides tailor the route to current sightings and your interests. You can expect to see elephants, lions, leopards, rhinos, buffalo, giraffes, zebras and a wide range of antelope and bird species. Sightings vary by season, location within Kruger and luck.

Optional add-ons to the base package
Victoria Falls can be added for 2 nights. The extension includes flights from Johannesburg to either Livingstone (Zambia) or Victoria Falls town (Zimbabwe), accommodation near the falls, and transfers.
Activities available on-site include white water rafting, bungee jumping from the Victoria Falls Bridge, zip-lining, helicopter flights over the falls, sunset cruises on the Zambezi River and walking tours of the falls themselves.
A 2-night Winelands stay extends your time in the Cape, typically in Franschhoek or Stellenbosch. This replaces the half-day tour with overnight accommodation, allowing wine-tasting at multiple estates, cellar tours, farm-to-table meals and scenic drives through the valleys.
Hermanus can be added for 2 nights, mainly between June and November for southern right whale watching from the coast. Mozambique, offered as a 2-night beach add-on, involves a flight to either Vilankulo or Pemba and a boat or helicopter transfer to an island lodge such as Benguerra Island, where you can dive coral reefs, deep-sea fish, kayak or relax on the beach.
How much do the add-ons cost?
Pricing for add-ons is not published on the package page and varies by season, lodge tier and availability. Victoria Falls extensions typically add $800 to $1,500 per person for 2 nights, depending on the lodge and whether you fly from Johannesburg or use alternative routing.
Mozambique island add-ons generally cost $1,200 to $3,000 per person for 2 nights, depending on the island, lodge and season. Winelands and Hermanus extensions are less expensive, usually $400 to $1,000 per person for 2 nights. Contact African Safari Home for a custom quote that includes your preferred add-ons and travel dates.

Who the Silver Safari Package suits
This package works for first-time safari visitors who want a classic South Africa experience without the complexity of multi-country routing. The 7-night duration fits travellers with 9 to 11 total days including flights.
The itinerary balances city sightseeing and wine tourism in the Cape with Big Five game viewing in Kruger, so it appeals to couples or small groups who want variety rather than maximum days in the bush.
Because the base package includes only one half-day Winelands tour and leaves most Cape Town time unscheduled, it suits independent travellers comfortable choosing and booking their own Cape Town activities.
The Kruger component is fully guided and structured, which works for guests who prefer not to self-drive in a large park. The price point and lodge standard place this in the upper mid-range tier, accessible to travellers seeking comfort and private guiding but not ultra-luxury or exclusive concessions.

Kruger / Sabi Sand: Dry winter (May–Sep) gives the best game viewing; summer is lush but wet.
Ideal — Peak conditions — dry, comfortable, prime wildlife or beach time.
Good — Great conditions with brief showers or warmer days; still highly recommended.
Shoulder — Mixed weather — fewer crowds and lower rates, occasional rain.
Avoid — Heaviest rain or roughest seas; many camps and roads can be affected.
What is included in the full-service operator offering
African Safari Home acts as a full-service operator for this package, meaning they handle planning, bookings and logistics rather than simply connecting you to lodges.
This includes arranging all transfers between airports, hotels and lodges using private vehicles. They book tables at restaurants in Cape Town and at lodges, coordinate activity schedules such as game drive times and Winelands tours, and provide 24/7 telephone and messaging support while you are in-country.
If you request animal interaction experiences (walking safaris, elephant encounters, cheetah or lion engagement programmes at private reserves), the operator sources these and adds them to your itinerary.
They also assist with optional activities such as helicopter tours, shark cage diving or scuba diving, though these are priced separately. International airfare is excluded, but the operator can recommend routing and timing to match the itinerary.

Frequently asked questions
When is the best time to book the Silver Safari Package?
The package is available year-round, but optimal timing depends on your priorities. For the best game viewing in Kruger, book for the dry winter months from May to September, when vegetation is sparse and animals concentrate around water sources.
Cape Town experiences its peak summer season from November to March, with warm weather and long days, though this is also the busiest and most expensive period.
April and October are shoulder months offering moderate weather, smaller crowds and slightly lower prices.
Whale watching in Hermanus runs June to November. Book at least 4 to 6 months ahead for travel during South African school holidays (April, July, September, December) and 2 to 3 months ahead for other periods.
What is not included in the $5,127 price?
The base price excludes international flights to and from South Africa.
It also excludes optional activities beyond the Winelands tour and Kruger game drives: shark cage diving costs around $150 to $200, helicopter tours over Cape Town start at $180, Robben Island ferry tickets are $30, and ballooning over Kruger runs $400 to $500.
Meals in Cape Town outside your hotel, gratuities for guides and lodge staff, travel insurance, visa fees (if applicable), and personal expenses such as drinks, spa treatments and curio purchases are all additional.
The package includes meals at Kruger lodges (breakfast, lunch and dinner) but typically only breakfast in Cape Town.
Can the itinerary be customised or extended?
Yes. The Silver Safari Package serves as a base template that can be adjusted to suit your dates, interests and budget.
You can extend Cape Town from 3 to 5 nights, add more nights in Kruger, swap one of the Kruger lodges for a different property, or change the routing to start in Kruger and finish in Cape Town.
The add-ons (Victoria Falls, Winelands, Hermanus, Mozambique) can be inserted at any point in the itinerary. You can also replace Kruger with a different reserve such as Sabi Sands, Timbavati or Madikwe.
Contact African Safari Home with your preferences and they will provide a revised itinerary and updated price.
How do transfers between Cape Town and Kruger work?
On Day 4, you are collected from your Cape Town hotel and transferred to Cape Town International Airport for a domestic flight to either Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport (KMIA) near Nelspruit or Skukuza Airport inside Kruger National Park.
Flight time is around 2 hours. At the Kruger-area airport, a lodge representative or African Safari Home driver meets you and transfers you by road to your first lodge, a drive that can take 1 to 3 hours depending on which lodge and which airport.
On departure, the process reverses: road transfer to the airport, flight to Cape Town or Johannesburg, then onward international connection. All flights and ground transfers are arranged and included in the package price.
What should I pack for this itinerary?
For Cape Town, pack layers: lightweight shirts, trousers or skirts, a windbreaker or fleece for evenings (especially May to September), comfortable walking shoes, swimwear, sun hat and sunscreen.
For Kruger, bring neutral-coloured clothing (khaki, olive, beige, brown) in lightweight, breathable fabrics.
Early morning and evening game drives can be cold, so pack a warm fleece or down jacket, long trousers and closed shoes.
A sun hat, sunglasses, high-SPF sunscreen, insect repellent and a reusable water bottle are essential. Binoculars improve game viewing. Lodges provide laundry service, so you can pack light and re-wear items.
If adding Mozambique, bring reef-safe sunscreen, swimwear, a rash guard for snorkelling and lightweight beach clothing.
Is the Silver Safari Package good value compared to booking independently?
Booking the components separately (flights, hotels, lodges, transfers, guides, tours) often costs the same or more than the package price once you account for operator margins, coordination time and the risk of booking errors.
The package includes private transfers and private game drives, which are expensive to arrange individually. African Safari Home negotiates lodge rates and has access to allocations and rates not available to the public, particularly at higher-end properties.
The 24/7 support and in-country problem-solving add value if flights are delayed or plans change. For travellers who want a structured itinerary without spending hours researching lodges, routes and logistics, the package offers good value.
Experienced Africa travellers comfortable self-driving and using Airbnb-style accommodation can cut costs by 30 to 40 per cent, but will sacrifice the private guiding, luxury lodges and full-service coordination.
